What 2 Expect
When you decide to rent costumes from MSMT Costumes, we work with you throughout the entire process; from the initial inquiry to the return of the costumes and the refund of your security deposit.
When you first express interest in a rental, we provide you with an initial inventory of the costumes we have in your show’s costume package and we quote you a rental fee. Once you have agreed to rent from us, we email you a rental agreement and an invoice of the final rental charges. It is important we have the information requested on our inquiry form in order for an agreement to be drafted.
Securing your rental dates
In order to secure the dates of your rental, the signed rental agreement we’ve provided to you must be returned to us along with the refundable security deposit payment.
PRICING and FEES
Every rental, whether it’s a full show plot, a partial show plot or a just a few costumes, is subject to certain fees. We have A La Carte prices for those renting just a few costumes or partial show packages, and we have Costume Show Package rental fees which range from $1000 to $12,000, depending on how many costumes are in each show. These rental fees are based on an average two-week production run. We definitely take into consideration the limits of our customer’s budgets and like to work out a final rental fee that is fair to the customer and to MSMT Costumes. So don’t hesitate to contact us about your needs.
Refundable Security Deposit
A 25% refundable security deposit is required for all rentals. The security deposit is used to cover extra fees that may need to be charged such as; clothes that are not returned clean; items missing from the rental, or damaged items; late fees, or shipping costs incurred by MSMT Costumes. The remainder of the security deposit will be refunded within 30 days of the costumes return to us.
Any order received less than 5 weeks prior to opening night will incur a rush fee of 30% of the base package price.
We are required to pay designer fees to certain show packages we rent out. An additional 5% of the rental package price will be added to the final rental fee for: The Drowsy Chaperone, Always…Patsy Cline, Sweeney Todd, Chicago, Pajama Game, Xanadu and The Wiz. A 10% design fee is added to the rental fee for RENT and SPAMALOT.
We take checks, Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover. We will not take Purchase Orders. The security deposit must be paid at the time the rental agreement is signed. The full rental fee payment is due at least 7 days before the costumes are scheduled to be shipped.
MSMT Costumes only ships via FedEx Ground or UPS. We require a FedEx or UPS account number to process the shipping charges, as the customer is responsible for all shipping charges. We prefer to ship your costumes to you at least 4 weeks in advance of your first dress rehearsal so that you’ll have plenty of time for fittings, alterations, photo shoots, etc. There is no extra charge for this.
Once the costumes have been shipped, we email you a final inventory of the costumes in the package (Schedule A) and a Costume Care guide (Schedule B). We answer any questions you have along the way and try to accommodate any special costume requests.
Certificate of Insurance
Before we can ship the costumes to you, we also require a certificate of property insurance covering the value of the costumes for the duration of your rental period. This paper is usually obtained from the renting organization’s insurance company. We provide more information about this when we send you the rental agreement.
A $30 handling fee is charged to cover pick up charges from the shipping company.
SELECTION OF COSTUMES
We have specific costumes that belong to each of our costume packages. We provide this information to you by sending you the inventory of the show. If you’re able to give us measurements of your actors at least two weeks before we ship the costumes, we do our best to make sure that the costumes we send are the correct size, or that they can be altered by you to become the correct size. COSTUME SHOW PACKAGES: Costumes listed in a show package inventory reflect the costumes available for the show in which the Customer is renting. Additional costumes, not already listed on the inventory, may or may not be available–please discuss with us. Pulling fees apply for customers who ask us to provide alternately sized costumes for the packages. Pulling and extra rental fees apply when customers ask for additional costumes not listed on the inventory.
COSTUME SHOW PACKAGES/PARTIAL RENTAL:Depending on the show package and availability, customers can rent a partial package. We rent full character costume tracks only. Weekly partial rental fees vary per costume package, but cannot be less than 30% of the full rental rate. Pulling fees may apply.
A LA CARTE COSTUME RENTING: We have a nice general stock that organizations may rent from. We’ll pull items based on the description of your needs and work to help you costume your show. The Customer will be charged a weekly rental fee per each item rented and a pulling fee of 25% of the total rental fee.
ALTERATION OF COSTUMES
As stated above, we will do our best to supply costumes that fit your actors. We won’t alter the costumes ourselves, however we do allow customers to make the necessary size alterations to costumes as long as the they are restored to their original condition before they are returned to MSMT Costumes. MSMT does not guarantee costume sizes, but will make every effort to meet the Customers size requirements with what is available in stock.
CLEANING OF COSTUMES
One of the main reasons we can keep our rental fees fairly low is that we expect the customer to return any rented costume back to MSMT Costumes in a clean condition. When you rent from us, we supply you with an inventory of the costumes you rented, which includes a cleaning instructions key for each piece. Some costumes require dry cleaning, machine washing, or hand washing. Clothes dryers ruin costumes, so we recommend that all costumes that are able to be machine or hand washed also be hung to dry. Customers are charged heftily if costumes are not returned clean.
Unused Costumes : If you discover there are costumes you did not need for your production, please send these costumes back to us as soon as your show opens. That way, we know you didn’t use the costumes and therefore won’t charge you cleaning/dry cleaning fees if they are returned to us not clean.
Return of Costumes
After your show closes, you have ten business days to clean the costumes and return them to MSMT Costumes. Once we receive your return, we inventory the costumes and asses their condition and refund your security deposit within thirty days. If costumes are returned unclean or damaged, we deduct those fees from your security deposit and refund the remainder, or provide you with a final invoice.
